SPORTS ELIGIBILITY CHECK

WILL BE EVERY THURSDAY DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR

  • You must be passing four classes to be eligible to participate in sports.
  • Eligibility checks for grades are completed every week.
  • In order for your assignments to be included in your grade, they must be turned in by the end of the day on the Wednesday of the eligibility check.  Any work turned in after that time will not be included in your grade.  
  • If you are ineligible, your suspension will begin the NEXT WEEK MONDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.

 

 

 

REMINDER ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

 

 1st Trimester Exams will be held the week of November 17th.

Please see the PINK notices posted around for school for the exam schedule.

 

2nd Trimester Schedules will be handed out Monday, November 24th

Please report to the Gymnasium between 7 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. to pick up your schedule. 

You will then report to your 1st hour class.

 

The Fall Play is finally here!  The two shows will be this Thursday and Friday (Nov. 13th and 14th) at 7 pm in the W.L. Austin Auditorium.  Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults at the door, but if you buy your tickets in advance at the bookstore, you can get a dollar off each ticket!   Please come out and support the theatre students' version of Sleeping Beauty called The Beauty of the Dreaming Wood.

 

Attention all high school students! The Muskegon Board of Education is considering requiring all student-athletes to maintain a 2.0 grade point average to be eligible to play sports. We want to know what you think. Please go to http://www.muskegonhighschool.com/ and click on "athletics" to take the short 7-question survey. The survey will only be available until November 30th, so hurry.

Juniors and Seniors who are interested in taking a CTC class next trimester in the morning or afternoon should contact their counselor as soon as possible.  Openings fill up quickly.  This will be the last opportunity to start a CTC class this year.

will result in a 25 cent charge.

SCHOLARSHIPS/COLLEGE INFORMATION…

 

Attention Seniors: If you are the child or grandchild of an Eastern Michigan University alumni you may qualify for the EMU Alumni Scholarship.  A gradepoint average of 3.2 or better is also required. This is a $1250 scholarship, renewable for up to 4 years.  If you plan on attending Eastern and qualify for this scholarship, pick up an application in the Guidance Office or apply online at www.emich.edu/alumni/awards/scholar.html.  The deadline is March 6, 2009.

 

The Valley of Grand Rapids, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite is currently accepting applications for their 32nd Michigan Scottish Rite Scholarship.  You do not need to have ties to the Masons in order to apply.  Scholarships are awarded based on academics and financial need.  You may receive an application by calling 1-800-340-4060.  The deadline is February 20, 2009.

 

Any student interested in attending one of the five Military Academies should plan to attend Academy Night, which has been scheduled for Monday, November 24.  The event will be held at the Gerald R. Ford Museum in Grand Rapids and will last from 7PM-9PM. You may call 616-395-0030 with questions you might have.

 

 

The National Commission for Cooperative Education is sponsoring 200 merit co-op scholarships of $6,000 each.  If you plan to attend one of the following universities, you may wish to apply for these scholarships:  CW Post Campus of Long Island University, Johnson & Wales University, Northeastern University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Toledo, Drexel University, Kettering University, Pace University, University of Cincinnati, or Wentworth Institute of Technology.  You can apply online at www.co-op.edu. and the deadline is February 15, 2009.

 

 

 

The Michigan Oil and Gas Producers Foundation (MOGPEF) is sponsoring five $500 scholarships.  Qualified applicants must have been accepted at a Michigan university or community college, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate financial need.  The applicant must also be pursuing a degree in an energy related field of study with the ambition of seeking to obtain full-time employment in the oil and gas industry, an energy related industry or an allied industry.  You may apply at www.mogpef.org and the deadline is 4-1-09.

 

The 2009-2010 Community Foundation for Muskegon County General Scholarship Application will be available beginning November 1,2008 at www.cffmc.org Click on "Scholarships" then "How to apply."  The deadline for the application form is March 1,2009 and the deadline for the financial form is April 1, 2009.

 

 

Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded during the Miss Sparkle Success Esteem Pageant which will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009 in East Lansing. Information is available at their website www.misssparklesuccess.org

 

 

 

Michigan AAA awards a $1,000 scholarship to two graduating seniors who can document that they participated in the AAA Michigan Safety Patrol Program. Students must also demonstrate good academic standing and be involved in community service.  If you meet these qualifications, you may pick up an application for this scholarship in the Guidance Office. Deadline for application is April 17, 2009.

 

 

 

 

The KFC Colonel Scholars Program is looking for seniors with financial need and  entrepreneurial spirit.  Awards are up to $20,000.  You must have a GPA of 2.75 or higher to apply.  Online applications will be available at www.kfcscholars.org from December 1, 2008 - February 10, 2009 

 

If you plan to apply to Northwood University, you can do so for FREE if you apply online.  Their website is www.northwood.edu

 

 

 If you have earned a varsity letter before your senior year and have a grade point average of 3.5 or better you may qualify to earn a Michigan High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Award worth $1,000.  Applications are available at the MHSAA website.  Return your completed application to Mrs. Nellis in the Guidance Office by Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Attention Wade McCree Scholarship winners:  

The dates for the mandatory Saturday meetings this year are October 11, November 8, February 14, March 14 and May 9.  The meetings are held 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM.  Please note the change in location.  The meetings will be held at the GVSU Michigan Alternative & Renewable Energy  Center at 200 Viridian Dr.  This building is downtown on Muskegon Lake near the new Harley Davidson motorcycle shop and the new fire station.

  

 

Eastern Michigan University announces the following two scholarship opportunities:
     1.  The Presidential Scholarship Competition will be Saturday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 13.  Sixteen four-year, full-ride scholarships and 29 four-year, full-tuition Regents Gold scholarships are available. Each student who meets the qualifications and participates is guaranteed at least a Regents
scholarship.
     2.  Education First Scholars Day is an opportunity for those who have a 3.3 GPA or higher to earn a    scholarship or upgrade their existing scholarship.
 For both scholarship opportunities, you must have been admitted to EMU.  You can register for either program online at emich.edu/go or by calling 800-GO-TO-EMU.

 

 

If you are interested in pursuing a degree in the legal field you may want to apply for a NALS Scholarship.  This organization will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship.  You must have a B average and be in need of financial assistance.  Pick up an application in the Guidance Office.  Application
deadline is January 15, 2009.

 

 

If you are a black male who is interested in teaching, you should investigate the Call Me Mister program.  The program is a collaboration between Clemson University and 4 colleges in South Carolina: Benedict College, Claflin University, Morris Ciollege and South Carolina State University.  The program covers tuition and provides an academic support system.  To receive more information or to apply, visit their website at www.callmemister.clemson.edu/index

 

 If you are interested in the Radio/Music Industry and plan on attending Brown College of Minneapolis, Specs Howard School of Broadcasting in Southfield, MI, Broadcast Center in St. Louis, MO or  McNally Smith College in St. Paul you may want to apply for The Conclave Scholarships.  Visit www.theconclave.com for further information.  The deadline for Broadcast Center, Brown College and Specs Howard scholarships is February 1st and March 1st for McNally Smith scholarships.

 

 

MEA Scholarship applications are available in the Guidance Office or online at www.mea.org.  In order to apply you must be a graduate of a Michigan public high school and plan to attend a Michigan public higher education institute. Applications are due February 18 so please have them turned into your counselor by February 10.

 

 

The Gates Millennium Scholarship is available to minority students who have a 3.3 unweighted grade point average and demonstrate financial need.  If you are interested in more information or would like to apply, please visit the website at:  http://www.gmsp.org/      The deadline for online submissions is January 12, 2009 and paper submissions must be postmarked no later than January 12, 2009.  

 

 

 

Two $1,000 scholarships have been established by Service 1 Federal Credit Union.  To apply for the Calvin J. Peterson Memorial Scholarships, you must be a child or grandchild of a Service 1 member.  Awards are one-time only and are not renewable.  You may apply online at www.service1fcu.com  The deadline is February 1, 2009. 

 

If you plan to attend a Christian college, you can search for scholarships at www.christianconnector.com  You will also be automatically entered in a drawing for a $2,500 scholarship.

 

 

The Web's first comprehensive merit aid scholarship database is available at

 

 

The Gerber Foundation would like to notify all greaduating seniors that Merit scholarships are available through the Foundation for seniors graduating from a Muskegon County high school.  Applications and information are available on the Foundation website at http://www.gerberfoundation.org/  Click on the scholarship page.  The deadline is February 28, 2009.  You must have a GPA of 2.0 -3.70 to apply.

 

 

The Society of Automotive Engineers if offering a number of scholarships to
qualified students.  You must be planning to enter the field of engineering. 
Students are encouraged to retrieve the application and information on-line at
www.sae.org/students/engschlr.htm   The deadline is Dec 1, 2008.

 

 

 

 A $40,000 scholarship is available through the McKelvey Foundation for entrepreneurs.  You must own your own business, have at least one paid employee, graduate in 2009 and plan to go to a 4-year college or university.  Apply online at mckelveyfoundation.org and click on the Entrepreneurial section.  The deadline is January 25, 2009.

 

 

The Ron Brown Scholar Program is a national program that awards scholarships to academically talented, highly motivated African American high school seniors. Applicants must be US citizens. Students may be awarded up to $10,000 per year for 4 years.  Interested seniors should print an application from the website at www.ronbrown.org  There are two deadlines for applying: November 1 for the Ron Brown Scholar Program and additional scholarships and January 9 for only the Ron Brown Scholar Program.

 

Northern Michigan University has announced its Presidential Scholars Competition November 9-10 and November 16-17.  You must have an ACT score of at least 24 and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.  Additional information is available at www.nmu.edu/presidentialscholars or call 800-682-9797.
