Office of the Superintendent
As the new year starts, we approach the half-way point in the 2008-2009 school year. The fall session saw a number of changes in our district.
Muskegon High School implemented a trimester system starting in September. We see a lot of positive outcomes for students from the switch to trimestering. We have implemented a two-way immersion program (both Spanish and English) for students in K-5. This program is located at Moon School and is available to parents who want to register their children in the program.
We have begun, on a voluntary basis, the implementation of an International Baccalaureate program at both of our middle schools. That was not our original plan. However, after extensive community input, we revised our plans to respond to community concerns.
All of our schools are busy with instruction. The elementary and middle schools are waiting for the results of the State testing program (MEAP). Our two high schools take part in the State testing program in March.
We need parents and community members to be a part of our efforts. If you have any thoughts or concerns, or would like to become more involved in the education process, please contact your local school principal.
